Final day to complete Medicine Hat’s Food Waste Pilot Project survey this Friday

Apr 25, 2024 | 5:41 PM

The City of Medicine Hat is encouraging residents to fill out the surveys for the food waste pilot project before the deadline Friday, April 26.

One survey is for pilot program participants, the other is a city wide survey for all residents.

The information gathered will be important to help in the decision on full implementation of the food waste program.

The food waste bucket participants received is to be dumped into their current green organics cart for pickup.

Shane Briggs, waste and recycling manager with the city, said the material taken to the compost facility are being segregated and processed in a completely different way than a full scale program.

“”It’s just a really small scale version of what a real process facility would look like,” Briggs said.

“There’s quirks, you know, that we can take biodegradable bags and whatnot. But on a full scale program, that’s certain things that definitely, you could probably end up taking.”

Briggs encourages participants to read the brochure, which details all the information they should need.

A QR code on the back of the brochure will access the food waste pilot program website.

If there are any additional questions, residents are encouraged to contact Environmental Utilities with the City of Medicine Hat.
