Medicine Hat residents are invited to help clean up their city on Earth Day.

Participants are encouraged to pick up garbage in local parks for the city’s annual Litter Blitz event on Monday,

Jeff Quinlan, technician with the city’s Parks and Recreation division, said there are some large groups participating, such as the Skateboard Association and the Lions Club.

However, he encourages all Hatters to participate, have a leisurely walk in the coulees and just keep an eye out for trash.

“Earth Day is all about environmental stewardship, taking time to recognize how fortunate we are to have the environment that we live in and that we’re a part of, and just contributing in any way we can,” Quinlan said.

Quinlan added that Medicine Hat is a beautiful city with a nice trail system, yet another excuse to get outside on Monday.

The Parks and Recreation office is offering gloves and garbage bags to the public all summer long.

“Whatever that looks like for families and individuals to just pitch in where they can and when they can’t doesn’t have to be just on Earth Day,” Quinlan said.
