The Medicine Hat Police Service has launched a fun-focused initiative to help increase their community engagement.

A collection of trading cards — or “Cop Cards” — has been released, with 30 different members of the police force participating.

The cards are back for the first time since 2010, as part of the 125th anniversary celebration.

The limited print cards have a short biography of the officer with a picture chosen by each member.

They are available in a printed or a digital card accessed by a QR code on the printed version.

Chief Alan Murphy has a card of his own, and anyone under the age of 18 that can complete the set will get a special gift from him.

“I will, present that person with a Medicine Hat Police Service coin, as a little reward for kind of getting the whole set, and I think it’ll take some effort to do that,” Murphy said.

“But the goal is see a police officer, ask he or she if they have one, including me, and if I have one, I’ll certainly give you one, or you can scan the QR code, and just a way to get us talking to the community.”

Murphy is encouraging the parents of younger children to get them engaged as they might not want to approach a police officer on their own.

He says it’s a fun thing with no time limit on it.
