Community-wide clean up planned for Earth Day in Medicine Hat

It’s all about protecting the environment and making Medicine Hat a better place to live.

That’s according to organizers of the city’s Litter Blitz community clean up event that will start on Earth Day — April 22 — and run until May 22.

Scott Richter, the city’s business and innovation manager of parks and recreation, said every bit of participation in the clean-up helps.

“Every small action contributes to a greener, healthier community,” Richter said in a statement Wednesday.

“Our annual ‘Litter Blitz’ campaign not only aims to enhance our natural beauty but also empowers residents to be environmental stewards.”

Beginning on Earth Day, participants — whether individually, with family, or friends — are encouraged to either use their own garbage bags or pick up complimentary supplies, including bags and gloves, for litter collection in parks, natural areas, and coulees.

Parks staff will remove any large items that are left near a garbage bin and reported by phone or email.

Complimentary supplies are available at the Parks office main entrance, 88 Kipling Street SE, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., starting April 10 until May 22, 2024.

Participants are encouraged to share their clean-up photos on social media and to tag the City of Medicine Hat on Facebook, X, and Instagram to be entered to win a night’s stay in a comfort cabin at Gas City Campground.
