Medicine Hat city council to sort who will chair meetings after mayor sanctions

Medicine Hat’s city council on Monday is expected to confirm its new approach to filling the gaps left by a mayor unable to chair meetings.

Mayor Linnsie Clark would typically chair regular council and Administrative Committee meetings but those abilities were taken away after she was sanctioned by her colleagues on March 21.

Councillors during that March special meeting passed a motion to address the appointment of a rotating chair at its next regularly scheduled council meeting on April 8.

The recommendation from City Clerk Larry Randle proposes the duties be performed by the coucillors who occupy the deputy mayor or acting mayor roles.
