Medicine Hat Tigers’ Gavin McKenna nominated for WHL Rookie of the Year award

On Wednesday the Western Hockey League unveiled the standout players nominated for the esteemed 2023-24 Division awards.

It included contenders for the coveted Jim Piggott Memorial Trophy, an annual tribute to the WHL Rookie of the Year.

Scheduled from April 30 to May 9, the ceremony promises to honor the league’s brightest stars.

Among the division winners vying for the title of WHL Rookie of the Year are:

Central Division: Gavin McKenna – Representing Whitehorse, Yukon, and donning the colors of the Medicine Hat Tigers.

B.C. Division: Terik Parascak – Hailing from Lethbridge, Alta., representing the Prince George Cougars.

East Division: Evan Gardner – A rising talent from Fort St. John, B.C., showcasing prowess with the Saskatoon Blades.

U.S. Division: Julius Miettinen – Originating from Helsinki, Finland and making waves with the Everett Silvertips.
