Tigers bounce back from overtime loss to tie playoff series at one, win 3-1

Mar 31, 2024 | 11:13 AM

The Medicine Hat Tigers won 3-1 last night in front of a raucous home crowd after last nights 5-4 double overtime loss against the Red Deer Rebels.

Coach Willie Desjardins said that the win in front of the home crowd was great but that the Rebels are a tough playoff team.

“It’s a really hard place to play, they’ve got great fans, their building will be full, so it’s going to be a battle up there,” Desjardins said.

“There’s no difference here, once you get into the game, we’re going to have to prepare to play hard and I know they’re going to play hard.”

Tiger’s captain Tyler MacKenzie said that the win was a great feeling after Friday’s loss but that celebrations were short-lived.

“It’s unbelievable. I mean last night, obviously super disappointed, it’s a feeling you never want to have, obviously that sucked a lot to lose in double-overtime after you put in all that work, it’s brutal, it sucks” MacKenzie said.

“But that’s [tonight] our first playoff win as a group, that’s something that’s really special, something we’re all going to remember,” he said.

“Even from the group last years group, that’s the first playoff win for these guys and this team, there’s no better feeling.”

The win ties their series against the Rebels at one game a piece as the Tigers head into Red Deer Tuesday for Game 3.
