Explore Our Prairie Forest takes hold of Police Point Park

Mar 18, 2024 | 5:47 PM

Medicine Hat’s recent warm weather has led to the city’s trails and parks seeing more activity, especially Police Point Park where the “Explore Our Prairie Forest” event took place over the weekend.

Due to the South Saskatchewan River, the park is home to a diverse ecosystem, including a 300-year-old cottonwood tree.

Animals such as moose, porcupines and coyotes also call the park home.

According to Isaiah Hurlbut, parks like Police Point are uncommon in Southern Alberta and said that the health of the park is reliant on everyone involved.

“Keep and eye out on what you can do in the community, even if it’s not Police Point,” Hurlbut said.

“Keep and eye out on what you can do to protect your local spaces, because once they’re gone, they’re gone.”

Hurlbut said that Police Point will be holding an “Explore Our Prairie Forest” information session for Earth Day in April.
