Hat High JV girls basketball team after winning zone championships

Hawks girls basketball team captures zone championship after 25-year drought

For the first time in 25 years, the Junior Varsity Girls Hat High Basketball team won a zone championship.

The girls finished first in their league after regular season, getting a bye into semi final.

They beat Raymond 70-55 in the semis, and then Cardston in the final, winning that 74-66.

Grade 10 student Hannah Markussom said the team worked to get over some hurdles over the season, including an ever-changing roster of players.

However, Markussom said the team works really well together and trusts each other, which is how they found success at zones.

“Our team, we just stuck together, played together throughout the whole game,” said Markussom.

“Everyone contributed in their own way and it was great. We were all really together in that moment.”

That marks the end of the season for the JV girls, but both the senior boys and girls teams are starting provincials this week.
