Week in review: Medicine Hat’s regiment is leaving, south end rezoning and more

Mar 9, 2024 | 6:00 AM

This is week in review, a look back at the top stories that shaped Medicine Hat over the last seven days.

The regiment is leaving

The South Alberta Light Horse Regiment, known affectionately by its veterans as the “Sally H”, is undergoing a process that will see it realign and rebrand to being part of the King’s Own Calgary Regiment.

The change after decades of a Medicine Hat-based command comes as a shock to both its veterans and some of its current soldiers, according to sources who spoke with CHAT News.

Col. Christopher Hunt, in charge of Alberta’s reserve forces, said the move is a realignment that will bring the Medicine Hat and Lethbridge reserve units under Calgary’s command while SALH will live on as a small unit in Edmonton.
