If you were planning on making some small upgrades around your house, now may be the time to do it.

The HAT Smart Residential Incentive program is now accepting registrations for 2024.

This City of Medicine Hat program offers rebates to encourage property owners and builders to make eco-friendly upgrades during renovations or new home construction.

There are four types of incentives available.

The existing homes incentive program covers upgrades to your house including windows, doors or insulation.

The new homes incentive provides rebates for the construction of new and energy-efficient houses.

The EnerGuide home evaluations rebate helps residents understand their homes energy usage and suggests improvements for greater efficiency.

Lastly, the scratch and win program offers rebates for smaller purchases, like upgrading light bulbs.

For the 16th year of HAT Smart, the city has tried to streamline the application process.

The city also added $100,000 of extra funding, for a total of $360,000.

HAT Smart Administrator Pat Bradley said the program is getting bigger every year.

“It opened at 10:30 a.m. yesterday and I probably processed 30 applications before I went home,” Bradley told CHAT News.

“When I came in, there was probably another 26 waiting for me to approve. So it is popular.”
