Notre Dame Academy is known for its sports academies.

The school is excited to offer its first new academy program since it opened.

Basketball and volleyball will be the first combined academy at the school.

Students in the program will benefit from a development plan that includes skill-specific drills, physical conditioning and mental resilience training.

Program instructor and teacher Kennedy Werre is a former Medicine Hat College Rattlers basketball player who outlined how the combined program will work.

“In the first three months we’re going to focus on volleyball,” Werre said.

“Next few months will be basketball and we’ll kind of rotate through some other kinds of activities like our other academies do,” she added.

“They’ll go to like Badlands [Training Centre], they kind of get to do other activities as well to encompass, making a whole athlete.”

Current Rattlers assistant women’s volleyball coach Doug Grimm will also instruct.

Grimm is a former teacher at the school who recently retired.

School registration opens at the start of February.
