Mayor Clark giving ‘State of the City’ address today at Medicine Hat Lodge

Jan 23, 2024 | 9:29 AM

Mayor Linnsie Clark is giving her third State of the City address this afternoon at the Medicine Hat Lodge.

These speeches typically include a look back at what was accomplished during the previous year and a preview for what’s coming next at city hall.

In 2023, Clark set an ambitious goal for the city’s population growth, aiming to reach 110,000 by 2043.

A big part of that goal is the city’s participation in the Strong Towns Community Action Lab, a partnership announced at last year’s speech.

Public engagement for the Strong Towns program ended last fall but that partnership continues at the city into 2024.

Clark gave her first state of the city in 2022, highlighting the city’s future hydrogen and carbon capture plans and reflecting on Medicine Hat’s previous successes.

The mayor will take to the podium today after a 2023 that saw skyrocketing utility rates and tension at council.

The State of the City is hosted by the Kiwanis Club, chamber of commerce and the City of Medicine Hat. (City of Medicine Hat)

Clark’s speech is expected to begin shortly after 12 p.m. at the Medicine Hat Lodge, following a lunch.

Tickets can be purchased in advance for $70 from the Medicine Hat and District Chamber of Commerce.
