Calgary’s Team Skrlik aims to defend title at upcoming Alberta Scotties

Many provinces and territories have already picked their representation for the 2024 Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

This includes Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and the Northwest Terrirories.

Manitoba and Ontario will kick things off this week and in Alberta, the contest to capture the blue and gold jackets starts on Wednesday in St. Paul.

Last year’s winners, team Skrlik, are heading back to try and reclaim their title.

For sisters Kayla Skrlik and Ashton Skrlik, last year was their first experience at a women’s national event, where the team finished with a 4-4 record.

Team members Brittany Tran and Geri-Lynn Ramsay had attended the Scotties before, representing different provinces.

Sticking with the same lineup this season, the team has won three tour events, qualifying them for provincials with Alberta tour points.

Ramsay, second for team Skrlik, said they had a tough start to the season, but are on an upward trajectory as they approach women’s provincials.

“It would definitely be awesome to repeat team Alberta back to back,” Ramsay told CHAT News.

“There’s always pressure going into provincials and there’s always pressure going into the Scotties. We’ve worked lots with our sports psychologist to really kind of manage those pressures,” she added.

If Team Skrlik wins women’s provincials, they’ll head to the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Calgary in February.
