Pincher Creek man charged with arson

PINCHER CREEK, AB – The Pincher Creek RCMP has charged a man with arson.

On January 9, 2024 at around 5 p.m., the Pincher Creek RCMP and Pincher Creek Fire and Rescue responded to two structure fires in the town.

Police said the first was a small business in the downtown area, while the second was a residence a few blocks away. The RCMP noted that the fire spread very quickly, and the investigation found that accelerants were used at both sites.

A man was seen fleeing the residential fire, according to police, but was arrested.

Michael Patterson, a 35-year-old Pincher Creek resident, has been charged with:

  • Two counts of arson
  • Assaulting a Peace Officer with a weapon
  • Disarming/attempting to disarm a Peace Officer

Following a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, Patterson was remanded into custody. He will be appearing in Pincher Creek court on January 11.
