Medicine Hat Schools preparing for extreme weather on Friday: What families need to know

Jan 11, 2024 | 4:21 PM

Schools are preparing for Friday’s blast of cold weather.

The Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education sent an email to parents informing them that school buses are scheduled to run tomorrow.   However, families are being told there may be delays due to winter road conditions.

To find out about delays, families can use the My School Bus Monitor. Cold temperatures may also cause unexpected mechanical issues school buses.

The MHCBE says children should be appropriately dressed for the weather.   As well clear instructions should be laid out on how long to wait for the bus and what they should do if the bus doesn’t arrive. Children should never be left at the bus stop without emergency back-up arrangements. Back-up care arrangements should be in place if school buses or other means of transportation are delayed.

For any and all questions, feel free to reach out to the Catholic School Board Office at 403-527-2292 or Southland Transportation Ltd.

Medicine Hat’s Public School Division suggests anyone concerned about transportation delays should make alternate arrangements.  SD 76 says in the event of any transportation service disruption, families will be contacted by telephone, email and Edsby with as much notice as possible.

CAPE School has announced that it will be closed on Friday due to the extreme weather conditions.
