Medicine Hat Tigers trade two players at WHL trade deadline

Jan 10, 2024 | 3:14 PM

It’s the WHL trade deadline and the Tigers are making moves. The team traded goaltender Evan May from Nanaimo, BC to the Moose Jaw Warriors in exchange for a 3rd round pick in the 2027 WHL Prospects Draft.

19-year-old May was 9-7-2 this season and earned two shutouts. May was acquired from the Everett Silvertips during the 2022-2023 season and played 40 games with the Tigers.

Tigers Head Coach & General Manager Willie Desjardins thanked May for his time in Medicine Hat and wished him all the best in Moose Jaw.

“Ever since we acquired Evan, we’ve loved his improvement each and everyday as goaltender in the WHL. Evan is a great young man and his character is outstanding. We want to wish Evan and his family all the best as he heads to Moose Jaw”, said Desjardins.

The Tigers also traded defenceman Kolby Gapter to the Vancouver Giants for an 8th round pick in the 2026 WHL Prospects Draft.

The Tigers are back in action this Friday and Saturday in a home-at-home series with the Lethbridge Hurricanes, first in Lethbridge on the 12th and then at home on the 13th.
