Fox and the Hounds: A year of harmony in Medicine Hat

MEDICINE HAT, AB – They’re a country music cover band that performs for fun and for their love of music. However, in the past year, Medicine Hat’s Fox and the Hounds have garnered a bigger following in the community of Medicine Hat and across Alberta.

“It’s actually pretty rare to get together with a group of people, a group of musicians, and just get along so well and have such a strong bond together,” says Morgan Klaiber, singer and guitarist in the band.

Troy Biccum, Morgan Klaiber, Joe Hofer, Jamie Fox, Jared Brake and Kaylyn Légaré have been playing together for a year, many of them born and raised in Medicine Hat.

“I think I can speak for the group on this one, everyone’s so proud to say that they come from this community because a lot of greats have,” says Jared Brake, keyboard player.

Recently, the band has also started performing under the title of ‘Morgan Klaiber Music.’

“We obviously are all ambitious, especially when it comes to music,” says Jamie Fox, the ‘Fox’ of Fox and the Hounds. “But nobody on this planet is more ambitious than Morgan Kleiber.”

Klaiber recently won Ranchman’s Rising Star, with her original songs, winning a main stage spot at Country Thunder Calgary and a radio single.

Klaiber says she’s already had multiple people in the community of Medicine Hat reach out, letting her know they had bought tickets to Country Thunder.

“I think the support will be strong,” Klaiber explains.

“I’ve got a lot of time to get my name out there and get that exposure, so by the time show day comes people will know who we are.”

Klaiber has asked her bandmates of The Fox and the Hounds to join her for the Country Thunder performance next year.

“I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous,” says Fox. “There’s a lot of people that are going to be there, it’ll be a hot sunny day, I like to sweat when I’m playing.”

“It’s going to be a totally different thing than what we’re used to.”

The Fox and the Hounds are unsure of what the bands future will look like, navigating the evolving dynamics with Morgan Klaiber Music. However, Jamie Fox says that they will continue playing together until they no longer enjoy it, a situation he believes is unlikely.
