Remembrance Day in Medicine Hat: Ceremony, closures

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Remembrance Day honours those who have served in the Canadian Armed Forces.

Here’s what is going on in Medicine Hat on Nov. 11:

CEREMONY

The Medicine Hat Remembrance Day ceremony will begin at the Esplanade Arts and Heritage Centre at 9:15 a.m. Doors open at 8:30 a.m.

At 10:30 a.m. a parade procession will start from the Esplanade to Veteran’s Memorial Park with a service taking place at the cenotaph at 11 a.m.

CLOSURES

First Street SE from Fourth Avenue SE to North Railway Street SE, including Finlay Bridge, will be closed starting at 8:30 a.m. until the ceremony concludes.

Motorists are reminded to obey all posted signs and to take extra caution while driving due to an increase in pedestrian traffic, the city says.

A ceremony is also taking place in Redcliff.

A form up will take place outside the Legion at 9:40 a.m. on Saturday before a procession marches to Parkside Jr. High School for a ceremony that starts at 10 a.m., organizers said.
