Cold weather record broken in Bow Island

BOW ISLAND, AB – This week’s cold winter snap has already broken one daily minimum temperature record in southern Alberta.

Environment Canada said “unseasonably cold temperatures” have settled in across the province.

On Wednesday, October 25, 2023, they say Bow Island got down to a low of -17 degrees Celsius. This was the coldest October 25th on the books, breaking the previous record of -15.6 that was set in 2020.

Weather records in Bow Island have been kept since 1961.

Medicine Hat dipped to a low of minus 15.4 yesterday, which made it the coldest October 25th here since 2000.

Heading into this weekend, Environment Canada said the weather should start to warm up once again.

The forecast high for Saturday, October 28, 2023, is minus 4. The temperature should reach zero on Sunday.

On Halloween, taking place this coming Tuesday, the temperature is expected to hit 10 degrees in Medicine Hat.
