WATCH: Solar eclipse brings Red Deerians to Kerry Wood Nature Centre

The sky was nearly perfect to view the partial solar eclipse from Red Deer Saturday morning.

The eclipse was of the annular variety elsewhere across North, Central and South America.

An annular eclipse is when the moon passes between the sun and Earth with perfect alignment, but depending where on Earth you are, the degree of solar coverage will vary.

Special telescope lenses, or eclipse glasses for individuals without one, are necessary to view the eclipse. Experts advise to never, even during an eclipse, look directly at the sun.

You can also replay NASA’s coverage of the eclipse which caught it during what’s been dubbed the ‘ring of fire,’ which is when the perfect annular alignment occurs.

The next solar eclipse viewable from parts of Canada will be on April 8, 2024.
