Southern Alberta skaters suit up for NHL teams this season

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Several hockey players with a connection to southern Alberta are gearing up to hit the ice for National Hockey League (NHL) teams.

The Western Hockey League (WHL) said 31 of the NHL’s 32 teams feature at least one member who used to play in the WHL.

Note: This article involves both former WHL players who were born and raised in the region and those who played for teams in the area.

Buffalo Sabres

  • Dylan Cozens
    • Played for the Lethbridge Hurricanes from 2016-2020
    • Was team captain for the Lethbridge Hurricanes in 2019-2020

Columbus Blue Jackets

  • Cole Sillinger
    • Played for the Medicine Hat Tigers from 2018-2020

Edmonton Oilers

  • Stuart Skinner
    • Played for the Lethbridge Hurricanes from 2013-2018

Minnesota Wild

  • Calen Addison
    • Played for the Lethbridge Hurricanes from 2015-2020

New York Rangers

  • Tyler Pitlick
    • Played for the Medicine Hat Tigers from 2010-2011

Ottawa Senators

  • Ridly Greig
    • Born in Lethbridge
  • Mark Kastelic
    • Played for the Calgary Hitmen from 2015-2016
    • Was an alternate captain for the Calgary Hitmen in 2017-2018, captain in 2018-2020

San Jose Sharks

  • Kyle Burroughs
    • Played for the Medicine Hat Tigers in 2014-2015

  • Brent Seabrook
