MEDICINE HAT, AB – The inaugural Rattlers Women’s hockey team has received a recent commitment from the Calgary Flames Foundation. $37,500 will be donated to the team over the next three years, aiming to support and improve the program.

A portion of the donation will be for new equipment, like skate sharpeners and upgrades to the dressing room. Some of the funding will also provide support to student athletes in the form of financial awards.

“The opportunity to partner with the Rattlers and help support and amplify women’s hockey is a privilege. We are looking forward to the hockey season starting,” says Candice Goudie, Executive Director of the Flames Foundation.

Terry Ballard is the Manager of Athletics and Recreation. He says the Rattlers have made a few promises to the Flames Foundation in exchange for this donation.

“To develop the young ladies in the proper way, both on and off the ice, be professional. We support their (Calgary Flames) logo on our jerseys, you’ll see that on Saturday. They look fantastic actually, we’re pretty excited to have those. Then simply promoting women in sports in the game,” says Ballard.

The Rattlers hockey team hosts their inaugural home-opener this Saturday, at the Moose Arena.
