MEDICINE HAT, AB – Being a snitch isn’t often a positive but it’s paying off big time this month for the Medicine Hat SPCA.

Someone snitched on Adam Jones of All Dogs Great & Small. He’s happy to answer to the charge.

“Being charged with doggy spam, if there is a crime to be guilty of I am absolutely OK with that,” he says. “It’s one of the things we take great pride in is showing the amount of fun the dogs have here.”

Since the summer animal lovers in the community have been snitching on their family, friends and colleagues and setting a bail amount they need to raise to avoid ending up in the Katch ‘n Kennel slammer.

A community event at the Stampede Pavilion on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. will include kid-friendly activities, raffles and giveaways, and 14 people will be in jail with adoptable dogs.

They’ll have to raise their own bail to get out.

As of 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, $10,000 has already been raised online by more than 20 locals.

Jones is the top fundraiser so far at more than $3,800. He’s been giving a day of daycare to people for every $25 they donate.

“The SPCA is a fantastic cause,” he says. “It’s one of those things that’s very near and dear to us and we know that every rescue organization right now is in a tight spot and that they’re all overflowing. So anything that we can do to give back to the community that’s helped us out we’re happy to do it.”

The Katch ‘n Kennel goal is to raise $50,000 which would cover the SPCA’s vet expenses for six months.
