City improving parts of three trails

Sep 21, 2023 | 9:14 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Work is happening this month to improve trails around the city.

A section of the trail along Police Point Drive has been identified as a low spot, causing concerns regarding proper winter maintenance.

The construction started this week and will include raising the trail, adding a drainage swale, and installing a culvert. The aim is to improve the trail’s winter usability and enhance drainage.

The trail will be closed to public access for the duration of the construction.

The timber boardwalk along Saratoga Trail is also undergoing rehabilitation.

To avoid frequent maintenance due to its poor condition, the city will replace it with a new culvert and fresh asphalt.

The affected section of the trail will be closed during the work, which starts on Sept. 25.

Work is also being done on a portion of McCutcheon Trail starting Sept. 24.

The city says the shale trail between McCutcheon Drive and the boardwalk also requires frequent maintenance and will replaced with a new asphalt trail.

The work on each trail is expected to be finished in October. More information can be found on the city’s Trailforks app.

The city urges people to obey construction and closure signage at the sites and thanks everyone for their patience and understanding.
