‘Overwhelming’ response to APARC’s foster callout

Sep 20, 2023 | 9:56 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – A local animal rescue says it is slowly making its way through the pile of foster applications received since alerting the public of its emergency situation last week.

APARC Medicine Hat announced it was at red capacity on Sept. 12, meaning there were very few kennels available in our intake area for cats/ kittens and no kennels available for dogs. At the time APARC was also not accepting pets from the public.

Now APARC says the foster applications are slowly being looked at and apologizes for any frustration from people who haven’t heard back.

“We’ve received a wonderfully overwhelming amount of applications, but through booking appointments, calling individuals, handling intakes/reclaims and caring for the 111 animals in our care it takes us longer than we’d like to reach out to everyone,” reads a post on the Facebook page.

Responses to those looking to foster dogs will be slower as the dog situation is not at red capacity. APARC says there are six dogs in the shelter and so many appointments have been booked for dogs they might completely clear out the dog kennels.

APARC says the support, understanding and patience from everyone wanting to help. If you want to foster and haven’t heard from APARC you are welcome to see all the cats in shelter at the new APARC location at 3184 Gershaw Dr. SW. Dogs meetings are only by appointment and they are not in the new building.
