APARC at red capacity, needs fosters for cats and dogs

Sep 13, 2023 | 3:01 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – A Medicine Hat animal rescue is facing an emergency situation.

APARC is at red capacity and has “very few kennels available in our intake area for cats/ kittens and no kennels available for dogs. APARC will not be accepting pets from the public.”

APARC posted the news on its Facebook page.

The rescue says it is in desperate need of fosters for its friendly, healthy, non-vetted cats and dogs.

APARC is also currently dealing with a feline upper respiratory illness in the shelter and needs fosters without other cats to take in sneezy cats until they have recovered.

The worst-case scenario is APARC may have to euthanize animals but will do everything in its power to avoid that. APARC says red capacity is only declared if they expect to euthanize for space within 48 hours.

If you are interested in fostering please fill out an application on the APARC website.

APARC has been at red capacity at least three other times this year in June, May and March.
