Library hosting chat with mayor and councillors this week

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Mayor Linnsie Clark along with as many as other six members of city council are scheduled to take part in a town hall-style meeting tomorrow night at the Medicine Hat Public Library.

The evening, from 6:30-8 p.m., will focus on the City of Medicine Hat’s Strong Towns initiative and well as arts, culture and recreation, and the downtown neighbourhood.

Chief librarian Ken Feser says the event is a great example of the sorts of conversations they want to see happening at the library, and the topics chosen are of particular interest to the library and its users.

People are asked to submit their questions in advance in hopes of maintaining a civil tone to the discussion.

“There have been some really feisty town hall meetings and I think it’s good that mayor and council kind of know what people are going through, what the emotions are in the community and the pain points,” Feser says.

“Utilities have been a particular thing there’s been lots of conversation around. And as I said we welcome tough questions but we want it to be civil both because I think that’s a good thing in general in today’s world for us all to be considerate and positive and respectful of others, and also I hope that we have a town hall meeting where we have thoughtful conversations.”

Feser adds that when people are on their back foot it can sometimes be difficult to share good information.

He wants Wednesday to be an evening of thoughtful responses and positive conversations.

The questions can be submitted online through the library’s website and to runners at the event.

All members of the community are invited to attend.
