City to extend main gas line in Crescent Heights

Sep 7, 2023 | 10:23 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Work will begin next week to extend the main gas line in Crescent Heights along McCutcheon Drive NW.

Set to start Sept. 11, the work is expected to take about six to eight weeks and be finished by the end of October, weather permitting, says the City of Medicine Hat in a news release.

No gas outages for the public are expected during the work. However, McCutcheon Trail will be closed at various points as the project progresses and there will be minor traffic disruptions.

The city says there will be a short-duration single-lane closure on 12 Street NW in Crescent Heights for directional drilling beneath the road. Another short-duration closure will occur on Fourth Avenue NW for 1.5 blocks between Third Street NW and the back lane against the coulee. Area residents will be notified directly.

All open excavations will be fenced and residents are reminded to be cautious around the work zones and obey all construction signage and personnel.

The $1.4-million project is a planned upgrade intended to redirect current gas flow patterns, thereby improving natural gas delivery to residents on the north side of Medicine Hat with less reliance on crossing the South Saskatchewan River from the south.
