Dozens of community groups in southern Alberta receive over $2 million in funding

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The federal government has announced funding for a significant amount of community service organizations across the country, including several in southern Alberta.

A one-time allocation of $400 million is being dolled out to nearly 5,500 Canadian groups under the Community Services Recovery Fund.

The money will go to non-profit organizations that were negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Minister of Families, Children and Social Development Jenna Sudds said community service organizations are often the first to identify and respond to emerging needs, and are often the best positioned to create real change at the local level.

“Through the Community Services Recovery Fund, the Government of Canada recognizes and supports the critical role these organizations play in building strong, resilient and inclusive communities,” said Sudds. “This funding will help these organizations expand their reach, build their resilience to better adapt to emerging challenges, and make a greater impact on the lives of the people they serve.”

In southern Alberta, a total of 52 organizations will share a combined $2,081,091.

The largest grant in the region went to Sanare Centre in Medicine Hat, which will use $100,000 for a fund development project for organizational resilience and sustainability.

Followed closely behind it, at $99,960, is Inclusion Lethbridge. Its grant will go towards a recruitment-to-retention initiative.
