MEDICINE HAT, AB – A federal grant program that supports seniors who are supporting their fellow seniors will launch next month.

Calls for proposals for the New Horizons for Seniors Program will begin on Aug. 1.

To be eligible for a grant of up to $25,000 seniors must either lead or play a vital part in the planning and delivery of the proposed project, which can run for a maximum of one year.

Projects submitted must meet at least one of the following objectives:

  • promoting volunteerism among seniors and other generations
  • engaging seniors in the community through the mentoring of others
  • expanding awareness of elder abuse, including financial abuse
  • supporting the social participation and inclusion of seniors
  • providing capital assistance for new and existing community projects and/or programs for seniors

“Seniors provide an incredible amount of wisdom and heritage to our society, and their contributions make Canada a better place,” says Glen Motz, Medicine Hat-Cardston Warner MP, in a news release. “By investing in programs that benefit and empower seniors, we, in-turn, benefit all of our communities.”

The submission deadline is Sept. 14.
