U15 SunDevils win provincial gold

MEDICINE HAT, AB – A young U15 team made waves over the weekend winning a gold medal at provincials in Edmonton.

The Medicine Hat SunDevils had an incredible season winning the Southern Alberta Lacrosse Championship. After winning their league, the team of young stars punched their ticket to provincials for a shot at gold. Playing against tough competition, the SunDevils prevailed. Taking down teams like Calgary, Lloydminster, Sherwood Park, and finally Sylvan Lake 10-7 in the finals.

After putting up 30 wins, two losses and a tie all year, it’s safe to say the season was a success. The win is a full-circle moment for head coach Logan Sundholm as he grew up playing for the team he now coaches.

“Yeah, that’s something I take a lot of pride in. Growing up I didn’t really do what we did this weekend. So when I moved away to play, I wouldn’t say I had a ton of pride for my time spent here. And now I’m glad I get to come back and kind of write that wrong.”

The journey to gold was a challenging one for the team.

“Well every team there was strong like every team gave us a good push… but nobody there was going to make it easy on us for us to do what we did.”

Team captain Torren Zentner says it felt good to get revenge on a team that beat them last year. “It mostly feels good to beat Lethbridge.”

With bragging rights, a gold medal, and many memories, this will be a weekend the young players surely won’t forget.

The SunDevils hope to bring back 12 or 13 players from the winning team with aspirations of going for gold again next season.
