Great Big Pedal ready to ride

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Bike Medicine Hat and Tourism Medicine Hat are inviting you to the Great Big Pedal on Saturday.

There are three routes to choose from that will go along Medicine Hat’s gorgeous trail system and accommodate cyclists of all ages and abilities, says Bike Medicine Hat event director Shelley Acheson.

“The short route will probably just stay within Kin Coulee, the medium route will leave here and head out just to the bottom of Scholten Hill and back and then the long route will go out to probably the YMCA and back,” she says. “So an all-inclusive ride we do have a lead and a sweep for each route.”

The cyclists will start from the Kin Coulee bandshell at around 4 p.m., says Acheson and the rides will be followed by fun in the park with a DJ and food trucks.

She says they want people to register online prior to the event but that you can register at the event. The earliest registrants will get a voucher for the food trucks.

Acheson says the city’s cycling community has grown in recent years and they all want to let everyone know cycling is accessible and inclusive whether riding on a trail or on a street.

Before the Great Big Pedal, Bike Medicine Hat presents the documentary The Engine Inside on Friday at the Medicine Hat Public Library. The film examines the power of the bicycle through the stories of six people from around the world.

Tickets are available by donation. The film starts at 7 p.m.
