MEDICINE HAT, AB – This Sunday is a big day for the Medicine Hat & District Horticultural Association. They are once again hosting the annual garden tour that the organization has hosted since 1992.

This year’s event will feature eight locations: seven in Medicine Hat, and one in Dunmore.

Lindy Doyle has been a part of the Medicine Hat & District Horticultural Association for around two decades, she previously served as president of the organization in 2021. She says that the tour aims to help promote gardening to those who may be considering it or may not have thought about it.

“We have houses in Medicine Hat, sometimes in Redcliff, sometimes Dunmore, all around and it’s homeowners. We want to showcase gardens that are doable for the average person and our mandate is to promote everything horticultural,” Doyle said on Friday.

The tour will run from noon to 5 p.m., on Sunday. People can start are whichever location and end wherever they want. People are encouraged to ask questions and learn tips on how to create a beautiful garden.

One concern that some people had prior were the dry conditions of the grass and holes being dug up by rodents, however Doyle notes that gardeners have persevered.

“Gardeners rise to the challenge, we don’t call those holes in the garden, we call those opportunities to put in a new plant,” Doyle added.

Tickets start at $10 and are available at four locations in the region:

  • Blondie’s Gift & Garden
  • Windmill Garden Centre
  • Tourist Information Centre – Gehring Road
  • Redcliff Public Library

Additional information can be found at the organization’s website, Facebook and Twitter.
