Tigers take two in CHL Import Draft

Jul 6, 2023 | 8:05 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Tigers made two selections in the 2023 CHL Import Draft on Wednesday.

Making their first pick at No. 27, the Tigers took Latvian defenceman Bruno Petrovics. The blueliner scored 12 points in 35 games in the Finland U18 League with SM-sarja and played for his home country during the U18 Championships.

“Bruno is a two-way left-handed d-man with a motor,” says Tigers director of player personnel Bobby Fox. “He skates well and shows good situational awareness and anticipation.”

The Tigers chose Czech forward Vasyl Spilka with their second pick at No.87. Spilka scored 45 points in 21 games while playing U17 hockey with Bili Tygri Liberec and added 19 points in 15 games with the Bili Tygri Liberec U20 squad.

“Vasyl is a big offensive forward, he’s hard to contain and shows strong play around the net,” says Fox.

Both will be at the Tigers’ fall camp and preseason in August and September.

Current Tigers at NHL camps

Two current Tigers are at NHL Development Camps this week.

Centre Oasiz Wiesblatt led the Tigers with 60 points this season, good enough for an invite to the Columbus Blue Jackets camp. Defenceman Josh Van Mulligen of Medicine Hat is in Edmonton for the Oilers development camp. Scored nine points this season in 68 games played.
