Property tax deadline is today

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Today is the final day to pay your Medicine Hat property taxes or apply for a payment plan to avoid a late penalty.

Any amounts unpaid as of July 1 will incur an immediate penalty of eight per cent.

Property tax revenue is split three ways, with the City of Medicine Hat estimated to receive about $85.3 million, according to its website. The money funds city operations and services such as parks and recreation, road maintenance and snow clearing, fire and emergency services and general city government.

Property tax payments also include the provincial education tax, for which the province receives $25.4 million. The Cypress View Foundation levy amounts to just over $1.2 million.
