Last Standing: large breakdancing event being held in Medicine Hat this weekend

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat is hosting Canada’s largest break dancing networking event this weekend.

Last Standing Volume 5 will feature 298 breakers from across the country. Even some dancers from Spain and America are making the commute.

Friday starts as a networking opportunity for dancers. Saturday there are one-on-one dance battles with cash-prizes. -Workshops from Olympic breakers will be held on Sunday.

Although Last Standing is annual, extra funding from Canada Council for the Arts means a bigger event this year.

Breakdancer and owner of Motiv Custom Apparel Kendra Melanson encourages Hatters to attend the main event on Saturday.

She says it will be entertaining for all ages, and it may even inspire young dancers to get into breaking.

“So June 10th, if the kids had never battled before or done anything like that, parents can bring their kids ages three and up or whatever and see like, ‘oh mommy, I wanna do that. They might be like hyped on like what breaking is and how they connect and interact with the music’,” Melanson says.

Saturday’s event will be taking place at Medicine Hat High School. Admission tickets for spectators are $10, or $5 for children under the age of 10.
