MEDICINE HAT, AB – The shelves at the Root Cellar Food & Wellness Hub are full again after last weekend’s Food Round Up event.

From May 20-24 volunteers from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, the McCoy Colts football team and Iron Horse Energy Services dropped off bags at Medicine Hat homes hoping residents would fill the bags with items for the Root Cellar. Volunteers went back on May 27 to pick up the bags from people’s doorsteps.

All told, more than 20,000 pounds of food was collected, says Melissa Mullis, executive director of the Root Cellar.

“The day was an overwhelming success,” Mullis says. “The trucks just kept coming full of food and thanks to the kindness of the community, the shelves of are emergency food pantry are full and we couldn’t be more grateful.”
