Tigers sign Ruck twins to WHL Scholarship and Development deals

The Medicine Hat Tigers have signed their top two picks from this month’s Western Hockey League Prospects Draft to WHL Scholarship & Development Agreements.

The Tigers selected twin brothers Liam and Markus Ruck in the first round on May 11, taking Liam at ninth overall and Markus 21st overall. The brothers attended the team’s prospects camp last weekend and will be back in Medicine Hat for training camp in the fall.

Liam says he is honoured to sign with the Tigers and pull on the jersey for the first time.

“It’s pretty surreal,” he tells the Tigers website. “Obviously you dream to play in this league and being here is just awesome, it’s a great organization and have a great future ahead of them.”

Markus says “Signing with my brother is a great feeling to have and I’m super excited to get started training getting bigger, stronger and faster.”

Tigers director of player personnel Bobby Fox says drafting the brothers adds another dynamic group of forwards to the team’s future.

“This is exciting for the Medicine Hat Tigers, you can’t have one brother without the other,” he says. “They’re both unbelievable players, they can’t be separated, they are almost one guy in essence.”

The twins both played Prep hockey last season with the U15 Okanagan Hockey Academy. Liam led the league with 90 points on 53 goals and 37 assists in 27 games. Markus was second with 87 points on 22 goals and 65 assists. Both played just 27 games.
