MEDICINE HAT, AB – King Charles III was crowned earlier this month and two months from now Medicine Hat will have its own coronation. The Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede is accepting applications for its Stampede Queen and Princess for competition.

Lori Siedlecki has been the coordinator for competition since 2018. She says contestants will be judged in three categories – personality, horsemanship and public speaking. A fashion show will also be held on the final night of the competition.

The winning royalty will attend dozens of events over the next year within the community prior to the 2024 Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede.

“They do local events and attend schools, senior home visits, and wherever we have been invited to go as we try to attend as many as we can,” Siedlecki said Wednesday.

The contest has run for approximately 50 years and dozens of women have been crowned queen and princess of the Medicine Hat Stampede over those years. This year, the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede are expanding their requirements to women who live within a 225 km radius of Medicine Hat, a distance that stretches as far north as Oyen and as far west as Fort Macleod.

Registration has been extended until June 16, with competitions being held from July 12-15. Eligibility details are available on the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede website.
