Hamlet in Northwest Territories lifts local state of emergency as floodwaters recede
FORT MCPHERSON, N.W.T. — A hamlet in the Northwest Territories’ Beaufort Delta region has lifted a local state of emergency as floodwaters from the Peel River recede.
The Hamlet of Fort McPherson declared the emergency on May 16 after flooding cut off access to the community’s fresh water supply and airport.
The hamlet lifted the emergency Monday afternoon after municipal services were restored.
That includes access to fresh water and the community’s solid waste site.
