MEDICINE HAT, AB – Heroes are often thought of as wearing capes, cool masks, or having some insane superpower. Here in Medicine Hat, three heroes were recognized for their decision to help an individual who was suicidal back in March.

Kiaya Turner and Christine Hunter-Wagner were driving when they noticed a person in distress on an overpass. They turned their car around to help and learned that the individual was suicidal. They quickly acted.

Karlie Schmaltz witnessed the incident and was asked by Turner and Hunter-Wagner to call 911. The three of them stayed with the individual until the police arrived and were able to assist and help the individual.

The three women were given the Chief’s Commendation on Wednesday for their heroic actions in saving the individual’s life. The women were applauded by the police for their selflessness and their willingness to give somebody help when they needed it the most.
