Annual bike to work day Friday

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Tomorrow marks the Annual Bike-to-Work Day, a call for commuters to pedal instead of drive.

This event allows Canadians to embrace a healthier lifestyle, minimize air pollution, and reduce traffic congestion.

Bike enthusiast John Kuepper enjoys riding his bike around local Medicine Hat trails.

When Kuepper lived in Saskatoon, he pedaled to work every day regardless of the season.

In the winter, he used his off-roading bike to tackle tough snowy conditions.

Kuepper says one reason he did it was to help reduce carbon emissions, while also reaping the benefits of getting active and being outside.

While Kuepper encourages Hatter’s to participate in Bike-to-Work Day, he also stresses the importance of safety.

He recommends wearing a helmet, a bright shirt and having lights on your bike.

Kuepper believes Bike-to-Work Day can inspire people to start biking again and stay consistent.

“Oh I think it’s great. People can dust off those bikes that they bought and hung up in their garage and get out and actually see how great it is”, Keupper voices.

Kuepper says making friends within the community can help bikers stay consistent. One way to do that is by joining a bike group in Medicine Hat, such as 670 collective or Bike Medicine Hat.
