Alberta NDP promises Kids Activity Tax Credit

May 10, 2023 | 11:45 AM

The Alberta NDP say, if elected, they will implement a Kids Activity Tax Credit, which would give families up to $500 per child, tax-refundable.

The credit could be applied to the cost of any recreational or extracurricular programming, including sports, music lessons or camp fees.

“I know these days parents are making hard decisions because they can’t afford all the opportunities they want for their kids,” said Rachel Notley, party leader.

“Our plan means more opportunities for Alberta kids to learn new things, score more goals, and follow their dreams. It also means fewer tough choices for parents. No more struggling to choose between soccer or swimming lessons, art classes or coding camp.”

The NDP says there will be no application process, and families will simply receive the money back when they file taxes.

The party adds that this announcement builds on their plan to launch Hometown Alberta, a new program to build and improve local community facilities across the province.
