Smith won’t discuss comments comparing COVID vaccinated to Hitler supporters

May 9, 2023 | 4:50 PM

EDMONTON – Alberta United Conservative Leader Danielle Smith is declining to discuss her prior comments equating the COVID-19 vaccinated to supporters of Nazi Germany.

Smith says it’s time to move on from what she calls the “dark days” of the pandemic.

She says during the pandemic sometimes she let her frustrations get the best of her.

Smith has apologized in a statement this week for comments made as a pundit on a podcast in late 2021.

In the podcast, Smith likens Albertans who took the COVID vaccine as credulous followers of tyrants like genocidal Nazi Germany leader Adolf Hitler.

Smith also says she is not wearing the Remembrance Day poppy out of disgust for the COVID restrictions imposed by political leaders.

The Opposition NDP says it wonders why Smith is allowed to stay as an election candidate while her party rejected another candidate last year for making similar remarks.
