BMX track offers open trial days to grow sport

May 7, 2023 | 6:04 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Hatter’s have an abundance of options to get on a bike and get outside this spring.

Medicine Hat BMX is offering open track days for people of all skill levels, including those brand new to BMX racing.

President of Medicine Hat BMX Connie Andres hopes it will encourage more people to get active.

“It is for everybody just to enjoy, just to keep active I guess. We all need to keep active. You race one on one in this sport, but it’s more of a family, our group is. I guess you would say it’s a village to make a family and that’s what we have here,” Andres says.

Young BMX racer Barrett Pritchard added, “I definitely think it’s just good to have an open track to practice, so I think it’ll bring out a couple people just curious. I know a couple of times people from Red Deer or Okotoks came here.”

The BMX club provides all gear, including bikes, helmets and gloves for the day. All participants need to do is show up and sign a waiver. Bikers of all ages are welcome.

The next open trial day is May 8 from 6pm to 8pm, at the Medicine Hat BMX track.

An open track day for only girls will be held May 13.

Those interested can also reach out to Medicine Hat BMX on Facebook.
