Saratoga Dog Park reopens after 6,000kgs of debris and glass removed

May 3, 2023 | 5:23 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Saratoga Dog Park reopened to the public on May 3rd, 2023, after being closed for over a week.

The dog park was closed due to thousands of kilograms of glass and other materials being found in the park.

City crews used a machine that screens materials ten centimeters deep in the soil. In total, about 6,000kgs of material, including glass, concrete, pipe and wood chunks were removed.

Dave Geneo, the Manager of Operations of Parks and Recreation with the City of Medicine Hat, says they will continue to access the area over time.

“We are quite confident that this should provide us a good time frame before we might see some of that other material creeping up. We consider this to be a quite successful process, and we look to continue with this if we see any further stuff coming up from underground,” said Geneo.

Geneo says to call Parks and Recreation directly at (403) 529-8333 if you see any other materials surfacing at the park.
