Drew Barnes announces he won’t seek re-election

MEDICINE HAT, AB–Drew Barnes, who has represented Cypress-Medicine Hat as MLA since 2012 announced via video on twitter that he will not be running in this provincial election.

Barnes has served three terms as the MLA for Cypress – Medicine Hat. He was elected in 2012 and 2015 as a member of the former Wildrose party.

In 2019 Barnes was elected as a member of the UCP. He was kicked out of the party in 2021 and served as an independent.

Barnes has been involved in several local organizations including the United Way, Real Estate Board, Kiwanis Club, Hockey Hounds and is a past member of the Kinsmen.

“I’d like to take a minute and first of all, officially announce that I will not be running in the election called today, although many people have asked me to run and I’m very grateful for the opportunity to serve the constituents of Cypress – Medicine Hat for the last 11 years I’ve decided at this point in time that I’m not running,” Barnes says.
