Council to make funding decision on curling club facility repairs

MEDICINE HAT, AB – City council is expected to make a funding decision on much needed repairs to the Medicine Hat Curling Club.

Council will vote for a budget amendment of $1.55 million to fund a new temporary ice plant and ice mats.

During council’s last meeting in April, nearly one hundred members of the curling club showed their support for the facility that had to close last fall due to a brine leak.

The curling club proposed the purchase of a portable ice plant and ice mats that produce zero ozone and greenhouse gasses.

If approved the funding will help ensure the new equipment will be ready and installed for the 2023-24 season.

The new equipment would serve as a temporary solution until a brand new curling facility is built in the future.
