Ag. societies worried about proposed new CFIA rules on traceability

Apr 20, 2023 | 2:55 PM

The Alberta Association of Agricultural Societies says it has some concerns about proposed new traceability rules from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

These new rules would impact things like livestock shows and rodeos.

The CFIA wants fairgrounds to be responsible as an intermediary site for recording animal and carcass movements.

The new rules would also require intermediary sites to put a new, approved tag on animals.

The association thinks both should be up to the farm of origin.

The ag. societies group has a link to a form letter on its website anyone concerned about these rules can fill out and submit.
